Prior to founding KORE Payments, Nick played a key leadership role in helping scale one of fintech’s fastest-growing unicorns during a period of explosive national growth, while also building and leading large, high-performance business development organizations across the United States and internationally. Throughout his career, he has launched offices, built sales infrastructures from the ground up, recruited and developed top talent, and led market expansion initiatives across new regions, verticals, and product lines.

Following his time at Best Buy, Luis relocated to Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, where he spent eight years working in sales for a travel agency. In this role, he specialized in selling tours, offering local insights to guests, and coordinating airport transportation, further honing his skills in client relations and service excellence.
When the pandemic disrupted the tourism industry, Luis made a strategic transition into merchant services. Over the past four years, he has excelled in this field, learning at scale how to structure, build, create flows & teams. He was the oldest of three brothers and a natural leader from the start. “Since I was a young boy I always imagined creating my own future, my own destiny— to build something from the ground up, and to prove that the “impossible” is often just the beginning.” says Korthals.
His earliest inspiration came from his grandfather, a man whose story defined what perseverance truly looks like. Arriving in the United States from Puerto Rico at just 11 years old with only his younger brother, not even understanding English at the time. Things were different back then that was over 70 years ago, on his journey he faced challenges that would have stopped most. Instead, he built a life, a family, and eventually his own successful small business, a furniture upholstery business in Milwaukee, WI. Nick spent much of his childhood in that shop — taking furniture apart, sweeping up, learning by watching. More importantly, he absorbed the values that shaped him: work hard, put faith and family first, while building something that matters. Knowing what his grandfather overcame gave Nick a deep sense of pride and the belief that with enough determination, you can create your own path.That belief ultimately led him to build KORE Payments.
